“A GOOD START”

Acceptance Of Case

<N.Z. Press Association? WELLINGTON, May 9.

The Minister of Industries and Commerce (Mr Marshall) said today that the debate in the House of Commons showed a “deep and widespread understanding” of New Zealand’s position in the Common Market nego-

tiations. Mr Marshall said the debate also showed a determina-

tion to reach an acceptable solution. “This is a good begining,” he said. “The whole tenor of the debate represents the acceptance not only by the British Government but by the British Parliament of New Zealand’s case as we have put it forward,”

the Minister said. “This gives us the backing we need for gaining its acceptance by the six governments of the E.E.C. This will call for firm, determined and persist-

ent negotiation for which we are ready. “The several solutions which Mr Wilson mentions are all ones which we will be prepared to explore with the British Government and with the E.E.C.”
