Southern Horses At Te Rapa

“The Press” Special Service HAMILTON. Macdonald and Eiffel Tower, the Southland candidates for the second day of the Waikato Racing Club’s winter fixture at Te Rapa on Saturday, were let off with easy work yesterday at Te Rapa. The star jumpers had a good trip by plane from the South Island yesterday.

W. J. Hillis intends to school Eiffel Tower over the Te Rapa country on Thursday morning. While the course, which is comprised entirely of brush fences, is by no means tricky, it is well worth while to take a horse over it before contesting a race. This is because of the sighter rails in front of the fences, which have puzzled many good jumpers.

Koral, Ettrick, Arleigh, and Mosque, which accompanied Eiffel Tower and Macdonald north, are to race on the third day of the meeting on Saturday week.

Hillis will ride Macdonald and Eiffel Tower on Saturday. Macdonald is the ruling favourite for the Waikato Hurdles.

The Wingatui trainer, H. A. Anderton, is very pleased with the way Kumai has come through his race oh Saturday. He said that he thought Kumai worked much more keenly in pace work this morning. Kumai needs an easing of the ground, and there was some heavy rain in Hamilton yesterday afternoon. Kumai retains favouritism for the Waikato Steeplechase, the

glamour race of the meeting. Meanwhile, he should win the Melville Steeplechase this week-end.
