NORTHERN MOUNT

Walters On Segundo “The Press” Special Service AUCKLAND. G. A. Walters, who won last year's Great Northern Hurdles on Macdonald, has taken the ride on the Invercargill gelding, Segundo, in this year’s event. Plans for Segundo’s trip north are likely to be concluded after the Brooklyn Hurdles at Trentham today. Segundo’s trainer, R .E. Humphries, told Walters that Segundo would need only to run prominently today to make certain of a run in the Great Northern.

The Brooklyn Hurdles will be Segundo’s first race over fences this season. His record this season is three wins, including one in the £3600 George Adams Handicap, a mile and a half, at Riccarton, and 12 minor placings.

Last season Segundo had three starts over fences, for a win and a second.

His success was in the Pukerau Hurdles, 13 furlongs, at Gore on October 25, 1965. His second was behind Flisk, a member of W. J. Hillis’s stable, in the Kew Hurdles at Southland.
