Increase Of 16 { Per Cent

(N.Z. Press Assn.—Copyright) SYDNEY, May 9. Bum, Philp (South Seas) Company, Ltd., island trader, lifted group profit by 16 per cent to $497,493 in the year to January 31, in spite of a lack of buoyancy around the islands.

The latest result is equal to 33.1 c a share, or 14.9 per cent on capital increased at the beginning of the year by a one for two issue at a 50 per cent premium, compared with $449,188 equal to 44.8 c a share earned in the previous year. Profit has risen each year since a drop in 1961. Dividend on the higher capital is held at the 22.2 c a share or 10 per cent, the rate paid for the last 16 years. The latest figures are only those of the parent company, and include earnings of the subsidiaries only to the extent of dividends received.
