MELBOURNE Industrials were steady with rises slightly in excess of falls in comparatively quiet trading. Base metals dominated the market with C.R.A. reacting to profit-taking to close 22c lower at 638 c. Western Mining closed down 5c at 1190 c after selling down to 1180 c. Most other issues gained.

In oils, Interstate dropped 13c to 105 c while Santos gained 10c to 200 c.
