LEADERS STRONG ON A FIRM MARKET

Leading shares were well to the fore on New Zealand stock exchanges yesterday, to maintain the present firm trend.

Price changes were again narrow. Turn-overs generally were higher than on Monday but in Christchurch the number of shares traded was

down about 2700 to just more than 15,000. Insurances continued their advance, with N.Z. Insurance gaining Id to 23s lOd and South British 4d to 295. N.Z. Forest added Id to 20s 9d and N.Z. Steel gained Id to 5s Id. Lane Walker Rudkin recovered some of its recent falls with a gain of 6d to 14s and

Auckland Gas added another 3d to 7s 6d to make a rise of Is since April 21. In the overseas section, B.H.P. rose Is to a peak of 62s 3d in Christchurch while there was another sale at 62s 6d in Wellington. Among the falls, Ballins lost 3d to 9s 9d and N.Z. Sea Products 2d of its recent gains to 4s 7d.
