Contest Organisers

TN his message to “The 1 Press” on the occasion of the 14th World Ploughing Contest the president of the World Ploughing Organisation, Mr W. Feuerlein, has referred to the effort and sacrifice that are inevitably involved in organising an event like a world ploughing contest. Naturally a great many people have contributed to the organisation in effort and kind. The ultimate responsibility has been in the hands of an organising committee, under the chairmanship of Mr E. A. E. Fairhall, and the chairman of a series of sub-committees dealing with major aspects of the contest. A former president

of the New Zealand Plougning Association, manager to the New Zealand champion ploughman who went to the 1962 world contest in Holland, and for many years president of the Lincoln Ploughing Match Association, Mr T. F. Carter, has been chairman of the finance subcommittee. The ground subcommittee has been headed by the secretary of the Lincoln Ploughing Match Association, Mr A. L. Coleman, whose town supply dairy farm is just across the road from the contest site. Chairman of the programme subcommittee has been Mr I H. A. Magson, a former New ‘ Zealand champion plough-1 man, of Rokeby, Rakaia.

One of the country’s leading ploughmen, Mr J. G. Carter, of Templeton, has headed the exhibits subcommittee. Mr G. Middlewood, of Kirwee, has been in charge of the ceremonial subcommittee, and Mr C. N. Todd, secretary to the organising committee, has been chairman of the publicity subcommittee.
