B.B.C. DROPS FILM

Scenes Of Lesbianism (N.Z.P.A.-Reuter—Copyright> LONDON, May 9. The British Broadcasting Corporation has dropped a television film on the life of French novelist, Colette, which included scenes of lesbianism.

The 8.8. C., besides scrapping the £5OOO programme, sacked the producer-director, Mr Robert Kitts, aged 32. A 8.8. C. spokesman said yesterday the film was not dropped on moral grounds. “We simply exercised our editorial control,” he said. Another spokesman said: “The decision has nothing to do with scenes of lesbianism in the film.”

One scene in the film, “The Gentle Libertine,” showed women kissing in bed. Colette, who died in 1954, at the age of 81, was given a State funeral.
