DISABLED GOLFERS

Kaiapoi Man Wins Drive

CN.Z. Press Association) CAMBRIDGE. T. Walker (Glen Innes) won the Rothmans Cup with the best net score over 18 holes at the New Zealand Disabled Golfers’ second annual tournament at Cambridge. He played the par 71 course in 98, 33—65.

Walker lost his left leg five years ago.

Three women were in the field. One of them, Miss M. MacDonald (Matamata), had an excellent round of 93, 27—66 to win the 18-hoie stableford with 41 points. Other winners included.— Long Drive.—“Limbie”: D. Richardson (Waitemata). “Wingie”: L. Devlin (Kaiapoi). The inaugural tournament last year attracted 25 players. This year there was an entry of 36, from Whangarei to Riverton.

After the tournament the golfers voted to form their own organisation. It is hoped that, when the South Island entry has grown sufficiently—there were four southerners this year compared with only one last year—that alternating venues between the two islands may be possible and a that inter-island competition may begin.
