MONACO RACE

Fastest Lap By Brabham (N.Z.P.A.-Reuter—Copyright) MONTE CARLO. The Australian, J. Brabham, the reigning world motor racing champion, has moved back into top form for today’s Monaco Grand Prix—the first event in the 1967 world championships. Handicapped by engine trouble in earlier practices which gave him disappointing times, Brabham had a new type of unit flown out for his Repco-Brabham and clocked the fastest time, Imin 27.65ec in practice. The next best official lap time went to L. Bandini (Italy), in a Sefac-Ferrari, who covered the 1.95-mile circuit in Imin 28.3 sec. Brabham and Bandini now join J. Surtees (Britain) on the front row of the grid. Previously Surtees had held the best lap time of Imin 28.4 sec in his Honda. The three New Zealanders, D. Hulme, B. McLaren and C. Amon, qualified earlier. The British drivers, G. Hill and J. Clark, are entered, each in a Lotus.

The 100-lap race, total distance 195.51 miles, is a big test of driving skill.
