DAVIS CUP TENNIS
South Africa’s Narrow Win (N.Z. Press Assn.— Copyright) SCHEVENINGEN (Holland). The Australian-born R. A. Hewitt won two singles matches and played in the winning doubles pair to give South Africa a 3-2 win over Holland in their Davis Cup tennis match which ended on Saturday. Hewitt, now living in South Africa, beat J. Hajer, 6-3, 4-6, 8-6, 6-1, to give South Africa an unbeatable 3-1 lead. T. Okker, the Dutch number one, reduced the deficit by defeating C. Drysdale, 6-2, 6-2, 0-6, 7-5. Scores in other Davis Cup matches were:
Brazil 2, Jugoslavia 1; France 5, Norway 0; Hungary 2, Sweden 1; Britain 2, Canada 1; Poland 3, Israel 0; Spain 3, United Arab Republic 0: Chile 2, Czechoslovakia 1; West Germany 2, Russia 2; Italy 5, Austria 0.
