Indoor Bowls Winners

K. CoMett and A. E. Willdam. son (skip) won the Osborne Cup indoor bowls event at the weekend. Mr and Mrs B. Knight convincingly beat the former New Zealand pairs champions, D. B. Cook and W. U. Cuttance, to enter the semi-finals, but were then beaten by P. Shearer and B. Medlock, 9-3. In the other semi-final. Williamson and Collett beat Mr and Mrs I. Brown, 9-4. Fifty-nine of the 180 pairs qualified for post-section play. Among those who failed to qualify were E. G. F. Smith, J. A. Green, N. E. Hocking and a former champion. C. Ward. Results were:— Quarter-finals.—l. Brown 8, J. Pethig 4; A. E. Williamson 7, D. Buckley 5; P. Shearer 7, D. J. Stewart 2; Mrs S. Knight 15, VI. H. Cuttance 7. Semi-finals.—Shearer 9, Mrs Knight 3; Williamson 9, Brown 4. Final.—K. Collett and B. Medlock beat Williamson and Shearer, 2011. Shield Request.—The Otago Bugby Union has asked Hawke’s Bay either to bring the date of Otago's Banfurly Shield challenge match forward to Wednesday, August 30, from Saturday, September 23, or to accept the game on the later date as a special challenge.
