Took Stern Off Launch

(N.Z. Press Association) AUCKLAND, May 7. The stern was ripped off a £2OOO 12ft launch on the Whitford river, Bucklands Beach, this afternoon when the owner applied power to shift a stubborn concrete mooring. Mr D. N. Jones, of Howlck, was shifting moorings in the river. All went well until a 2901 b concrete mooring failed to budge. Mr Jones applied more and more power from the 60 h.p. diesel engine and the boat leapt forward suddenly.

“I looked back and found the stern had been ripped off,” Mr Jones said. He beached the craft but the incoming tide covered the launch.
