DRUIDS DISCUSS MEDICAL BENEFITS

Mr F. A. Britton was elected grand president of the Druids’ Friendly Society (Grand Lodge of Canterbury) when the annual meeting was held on Saturday. There were 42 delegates from the Canterbury jurisdiction at the meeting, which also drew delegates from Otago, Southland and the North Island.

The outgoing president, Mr R. R. Aitken, said that in the

last year there had been a steady increase in membership and in the number of applications for membership. “This is because of the increase in doctors’ and specialists’ bills and medicine prescriptions not covered by social security, and the present uncertainty of the economic position generally in New Zealand.

“The public is becoming aware of the tremendous benefits offered by the society today,” said Mr Aitken. “Married couples with young families are particularly anxious to avail themselves of the monetary and other benefits offered.” Officers elected for 1967-68 were:— Grand Lodge.—Grand president, Mr F. A. Britton; grand vice-president, Mr N. G. Milne; junior past grand president, Mr R. R. Aitken; grand guardian, Mr L. G. Franks; grand treasurer, Sister G. Hood; senior trustee, Mr S. D. Tarrant.
