Celibacy To Be Retained

(N.Z. P.A. -Reuter—Copyright) VATICAN CITY, May 7. Any future pronouncement by the Pope on celibacy would uphold the ban on Roman Catholic priests marrying, said a Vatican spokesman. Monsignor Fausto Vallaine. the Vatican news head, said that a recent Italian report that Pope Paul had granted dispensation to a Milan priest to marry was quite untrue. The only cases of dispensations being granted for married priests were when married Protestant pastors became Roman Catholics, and these were very rare. “If there is a Pontifical document in future, it will as a basic point emphasise this discipline of celibacy for the Latin rite and will reply to current difficulties and objections,” he said.
