Claudia Cardinale In Papal Audience
(N.Z.P.A.-Reuter —Copyright) VATICAN CITY, May 7. Pope Paul yesterday received nearly 5000 entertainment and press personalities in audince and appealed to them to disdain commercialism and immorality.
The film actress, Claudia Cardinale, aroused murmurs and whispers when she arrived at the audience in St. Peter’s in a black dress with a mini skirt cut three inches above the knee. She and another film star,
Gina Lollobrigida, who wore a knee-length black sequined outfit, were in a group presented afterwards to the Pope. Miss Cardinale kissed the Ponti’s hand. Among those at the audience were many whose private lives have been frowned on by the Vatican—Miss Cardinale had a son before marrying and her husband is not the father, and Miss Lollobrigida is separated from her husband. The audience—the first of its kind—was held to mark the celebration today of World Social Communications Day. It was open to any leading entertainment and press personality who wished to attend. The Pope said that freedom of artistic expression should not be used to damage the structure -ef society.
