RAIL-CAR CUTS
Services In Otago (N.Z. Press Association) WELLINGTON, April 19. Some rail-car services between Dunedin and Mosgiel and Dunedin and Palmerston are to be cut as part of the Railway Department’s plan to reduce uneconomic rail-car mileage. The services from Dunedin to Mosgiel and back between 9 a.m. and 3.45 p.m. Monday to Friday and the Sunday afternoon rail-car from Dunedin to Palmerston and back will be discontinued from and including Sunday, April 30. The Minister of Railways (Mr Gordon) explained that none of the services to be cut was heavily patronised—but added that some adjustments would be made to the Railways Department’s bus time-table between Dunedin and Mosgiel to ensure that a reasonably adequate off-peak service was maintained.
