VISIT TO CITY
Commander In Far East General Sir Richard Carver, Commander-in-Chief. British Forces in the Far East, will arrive in Christchurch on May 17 by Royal Air Force Comet. He will be accompanied by Lady Carver and his persona) staff.
On arrival General Carver will inspect a guard of honour provided by the Battalion Depot at Burnham Military Camp. In the evening he will visit H.M.N.Z.S. Pegasus after which he and Lady Carver will be the guests at dinner of the commander of the Southern Military District (Brigadier W. R. K. Morrison). On the morning of May 18 General Carver will visit Burnham and later inspect the Royal New Zealand Air Force base at Wigram. He will remain there as luncheon guest of the Air Officer Commanding Training Group (Air Commodore D. F. St. George). The visitors will leave Christchurch airport that afternoon for Wellington. They will stay in New Zealand for a few more days.
In addition to a distinguished military career, General Carver is the author of two books: “El Alamein” and “Tobruk.” He also wrote the regimental history of the Royal Scots Greys from 1918 to 1945.
