S. AFRICAN TEXTBOOK
Condemnation By Clergymen
(N.Z. Pres, Assn—Copyright) JOHANNESBURG, April 19. A textbook approved for use in South African high schools contained the statement “The World Council of Churches is infiltrated with Communists,” the Johannesburg “Sunday Times” reported recently. ' The book, “Civics for Standards Seven and Eight,** also said Communists “have virtually gained control of the modern ecumenical movement” and that 7000 ministers in the United States were Communists, the newspaper said.
Standards seven and eight are the third and fourth years of high school. The “Sunday Times" said prominent South African Dutch Reformed Church clergymen condemned the book as containing wild and inaccurate statements based on Right-wing propaganda.
