Time-tables Altered

Major train and railcar services in the South Island on Tuesday will be delayed. Many railway buses in Canterbury will be also delayed, and Some Lyttelton trains have been cancelled.

Because of railway stopwork meetings the Christ-church-Invercargill express will leave at 10.30 a.m.—one hour 50 minutes late—the rail-car to Picton will leave at 10.20 a.m.—55 minutes late—and the West Coast railcar to Ross will leave at 10.35 a.m.—35 minutes late. These alterations were announced yesterday by the traffic manager of the Railways Department in Christchurch (Mr M. R. Leineweber). The changes in the time-tables, he said, were unavoidable.

The Canterbury branch of the Amalgamated Society of Railway Servants is to hold its stoppage from 8 a.m. to 10 a.m., and the Lyttelton branch from 8.25 a.m. to 10.25 a.m. Mr Leineweber said that the usual 7.50 a.m. train from Christchurch to Lyttelton and

the 8.21 a.m. train from Lyttelton to Christchurch would run.

"It cuts across the hours of the Christchurch branch meeting, but they have

agreed to run these two port trains,” said Mr Leineweber. The 10.5 a.m. train from Christchurch to Lyttelton will leave at 10.20 a.m., and the 10.28 a.m. train from Lyttelton to Christchurch will leave at 10.43 a.m. The 8.50 a.m. train from Christchurch to Lyttelton and the 9.23 a.m. train from Lyttelton to Christchurch will not run. On the north line, the normal service will not be altered. On the south line, the 7.30 a.m. ChristchurchBurnham train will not run.

Mr Leineweber said there would be only minor alterations to goods train timetables.

“The A.S.R.S. assured me that every effort will be made to deliver perishable goods before the men stop work at 8 a.m. on Tuesday, to ensure the goods reach the markets on time,” said Mr Leineweber.

Railways refreshment rooms on Tuesday, he said, would serve breakfast to passengers for the ferry train from Lyttelton, But the refreshme:

nt-room staff would then stop work till after the stop-work meeting.

Luggage offices at Christchurch and goods sheds in this area, including Kaiapoi, Lyttelton, and Templeton, would close between 8 a.m. and 10 a.m. Road Services

The departure of Railways buses from Christchurch will be delayed till 10.15 a.m. on Tuesday.

They are the 7.50 a.m. bus to Ashburton, the 8 a.m. bus to Waiau, the 8.15 a.m. bus to Akaroa, the 8.30 a,m. bus to Hamner Springs, and the 9.45 a.m. bus to Dunedin.

The 8.15 a.m. bus from Akaroa, the 8.20 a.m. bus from Hanmer Springs, and the 8.30 a.m. bus from Waiau to Culverden will delay their departure till 10.15 a.m. On Wednesday the 9 a.m. Ashburton-Christchurch bus will not leave till 11.45 a.m. because Ashburton railwaymen will hold a stop-work meeting in the morning. The district manager of the Railways Road Services (Mr

E. W. J. Grigg) said yesterday that other buses from outside Christchurch might also be delayed .These would be announced in a newspaper advertisement
