WILL THE D.B. SUIT RETURN?

It seems to be a toss-up whether the doublebreasted suit will make a comeback this year,

next year or never. It’s not only New Zealand men who are indecisive

about the double-breasted style, at any rate in suits.

For some time, overseas fashion pundits have been predicting a revival of this style. So far, they have been false prophets. Pierre Cardin, France’s trendmaker -in - chief, has been busily promoting the style, but with no really impressive result. More recently Hardy Amies, in London, has given his blessing to it. This could help to settle the issue. For in matters of men's fashion these days the voice of Amies can be decisive. So far, however, interest in double-breasted stylings has been shown more in topcoats, waistcoats and knitwear than in suits. Fashion being what it is, this reticence about doublebreasted suits could disappear practically overnight Some double-breasted styles for younger men are showing in New Zealand now and, different as they are from the doublebreasted styles of the past, they could very well succeed to tempting the young into starting a trend.
