Soccer BRIGHTON UNLUCKY
Two More Injured For the third successive week, New Brighton will be handicapped by injuries in its return to first division soccer. The two young forwards, G. Taylor and G. Spiers, are both injured, and will miss their club’s early game at English Park tomorrow against Technical. The return of J. le Poidevin to centre-half will strengthen the defence, while R. Foley moves from half-back to inside-left and T. Costigan comes into the side at insideright.
K. Morgans, injured in the pre-season floodlit competition final, is still not available for Brighton. Technical will be without its Canterbury representative, G. Griffiths, who is attending a wedding, and J. S. Chalmers and W. Logan will fill the twin centre-half role.
However, Technical will have its former Canterbury representative, A. Wardle, back in the team for the first time this season, to share the role of striker with P. Kay. The Christchurch City coach, G. Evans will delay the final choice of this team to play Western in the main game at English Park until tomorrow. He has added B. Gowans to the eleven players who have been unchanged for the club’s last three matches. Western will be without its representative goal-keeper, D. Spraggs, and will have D. Smith in goal. T. Logan makes his first appearance of the season, at left-half, and the attack will be chosen from six players.
Rangers bring in two replacements—R. Doorenbal and C. Fillbrook—for their top-of-the table clash with H. 5.0.8. at Rangers Park, and Shamrock will again be without its centre-half, T. Riley, for its bottom-of-the table match with Shirley-No-mads at McFarlane Park.
