BORDER CLASH

4 Koreans Killed (N.Z. Press Assn.—Copyright) SEOUL, April 13. Three North Korean soldiers and one South Korean were killed in a battle early today in the demilitarised zone, the United Nations Command announced.

Three other South Korean soldiers were wounded in the two-hour gunfight just after midnight at a point about 400 yards south of the military demarcation line, about 70 miles north-east of Seoul, the command said. It was the third border clash reported this month, resulting in at least 12 deaths.

Forty-eight South Korean soldiers were engaged by a North Korean reinforced platoon of 40 to 60 soldiers in the border incident, officials said.

Defensive artillery fire from South Korean Army batteries was directed at the Communist intruders. This was the first known incident in which artillery fire has been employed in clashes since the 1953 Korean armistice.
