NORTHERN JUVENILES TO RACE AT HUTT

"The Prew? Special Service AUCKLAND.

Auckland’s top three-year-old pacers, Miles Gentry and Governor Frost, will meet in feature races for horses of their age at the Wellington Trotting Club’s meeting at Hutt Park Raceway on April 22 and 26. Their meetings with top South Island three-year-olds will settle the question of three-year-old supremacy this season now that Holy Hal is on the sideline. Miles Gentry is the more tightly assessed—2:l2 to 2:14 —but Governor Frost has finished ahead on all four occasions they have met. The last time was in the Great Northern Derby at Alexandra Park on December 31. Governor Frost won by a head from Fort Nelson. Miles Gentry was a neck back third. Each has had five wins this season. Miles Gentry has started 17 times and Governor Frost 12. The difference in their assessments is due to Miles Gentry having won three races to Governor Frost’s one last season. Governor Frost’s trainer, R. Purdon, will also take Southern Silver and Kildare Kate to the Manawatu meeting. Milford Boy and King’s Cord will go with them to the Wellington meeting. After a mile in 2min ssec by Lonesome Valley at Pukekohe on Sunday, his trainer is confident the gelding will give a fine account of himself in the Capstan Commodore Mile at Palmerston North on Tuesday night Lonesome Valley was assisted by a galloping pacemaker. “I was very pleased with the workout” Purdon said yesterday. “The Pukekohe track is not as fast' as the Manawatu Raceway so, under race conditions, Lonesome Valley should go pretty good time next week.”

Lonsome Valley has con-

tested two flying miles this season—at Cambridge and at Alexandra Park. He was beaten only by a head by Tobias in the Cambridge Flying Mile on January 7. His time was 2min 3sec. F. Smith will drive Lonesome Valley on Tuesday.
