Suspension On Trainer Lifted
"The Prozz" Special Service
INVERCARGILL. An appeal by the Mataura trainer, D. Todd, against a three-month suspension by ■ the New South Wales Trotting Club for his handling of Holy Hal at Penrith on February 28 has been dismissed.
It is Todd’s first suspension in a long association with trotting. The charge related to Holy Hal running second at Penrith after being under veterinary treatment for filling in fetlocks sustained during his sea voyage from New Zealand.
The stewards were of the opinion that Holy Hal’s condition warranted being reported to the stewards as required under an Australian rule.
Todd and the part-owner, Mr D. Keenan, of Edendale, were exonerated from any charge of malpractice. Holy Hal is due home any day, according to Mr Keenan, who said yesterday that a Sydney veterinarian. Dr. P. Wood, had operated on the suspensory ligament of Holy Hal’s leg.
“He will be shipped back to New Zealand on the first available boat,” said Mr Keenan.
