Hotel Closes

Another Dunedin hotel has closed. The Excelsior Hotel, which has had bar trade only since February, served its last drinks to the public at 6 p.m. on Saturday. Last October, Tattersall’s Hotel was "bought by the City Council as a paricing lot at a mortgagee’s Mie. At the close of the Excelsior, liquor had been sold for more than a century from the premises at the corner of Dowling and Princess streets. From 1864, liquor wu sold there from the Oriental Hotel and in 1889, the premises became known u the Excelsior Hotel.
