Clarke’s G.P.
(N.Z.P.A.-Reuter—Copyright) BARCELONA. J. Clark (Britain), driving brilliantly in a Lotus, led from start to finish to win the Barcelona formula two grand prix. His main rival was J. Brabham (Australia), last year’s winner. Brabham moved into second place in the tenth lap and held on about 400 yards behind Clark until three laps from the end when he was forced to retire with engine trouble.
J. Rindt (Austria), who started close behind the leader, fell back to fifth place after 11 laps, but crept back to fourth at half-way, and overtook Denis Huime (New Zealand) in the forty-first lap to reach third place. None of the leaders could then force further changes in positions until Brabham’s retirement in the fifty-seventh lap gave Rindt second place, and Huime followed him to come third.
