Weight-lifters Set World Records
(N.Z.P.A.-Reuter—Copyright) MOSCOW. World records were improved four times during the middle-heavy-weight event at Tbilisi in the international weightlifting tournament.
J. Taits, aged 23, (Estonia) won the event with a total of 1080}lb, which improved by sjlb the world record held by his compatriot V. Lyakh. Tait’s three individual lifts were 341}1b, 3251 b and 41311 b. A. Kalinichenko (Russia),
snatched 3315 lb to improve his own world record by just over a pound. Kalinichenko went on to jerk 4221 b to better the world record of 419J1b held by L. Martin (Britain). The new World mark lasted only five minutes before V. Shishov (Russia) raised 423}1b. G. Toth (Hungary) the reigning world champion, finished second over-all in the event with a total of 10361 b. L Palinski (Poland) was third with 1019jlb.
