Developing Hamner
The development of Hanmer Springs as a tourist centre will be discussed by representatives of the Amuri County Council and the Tourist and Publicity Department on April 19. This is part of proposals by the council to make Hanmer Springs more attractive as a tourist centre.
The council has suggested to the Lands and Survey Department that Crown land should be made available for additional recreational facilities.
The council sees the need for an 18-hole golf course in addition to the present course, more tennis courts, children’s playing areas, and general sports grounds, and the opening of the Lake Tennyson area.
As part of this programme the council will soon improve the access to Lake Tennyson, which will then be accepted by the council as a dedicated road.
The future of the hot swimming pools for the public
will be among the topics taken up by the council representatives.
The council’s request for additional land for recreation had been noted and would be considered when any areas of Crown land now being leased became available for disposal, said a letter from the Lands and Survey Department A note had been made also of tl council's intention to construct an access road to Lake Tennyson and the possibility that this could create a demand for Crown sections there.
The council will write to the department again asking for first offer on any land that may become available for disposal.
