Waikato On Way (N.Z. Press Association) WELLINGTON, April 9. The Royal New Zealand Navy’s latest frigade, the Waikato, left Portsmouth, England, last night and is expected to arrive at Tauranga, the nearest port to the Waikato, early in June, the Navy Office announced today. The Waikato’s first port of call will be Port Delgado, in the Azores. The 2300-ton frigate, under Captain E. C. Thorne, is the first New Zealand frigate to carry a helicopter. She was built by Harland and Woolf in Ireland. The Waikato, ordered in 1963, was launched in 1965.
