Slaughter of Rome Pigs
(N.Z.P.A.-Reuter—Copyright) ROME, April 9. The wholesale slaughter of pigs in the Rome area—the sick and healthy alike—began yesterday in a desperate attempt to halt a hog cholera epidemic. Pig breeders have been given 48 hours by the Health Ministry to slaughter herds totalling 25,000 head. A six-month quarantine has been imposed on all affected farms to combat what has been termed a national emergency.
