Potato Varieties
Sir, —Your article in today’s issue about potato varieties now unknown is interesting, both to present-day and past growers in many dis-
tricts. It is a .pity that the contributor did not continue by comparing old and new methods of harvesting and storing, prices a ton in 1930 and in 1966. Would it be correct to say that the first Arran Banners grown for certification were from the late F. McVae of Courtenay, he having purchased a very small quantity from W. J. Jenkins and grown them for certification in much greater quanity in 1931 or 1932? And are Black Kidneys another variety now unknown or are they the Arran Victory referred to?—Yours, etc, 1930 GROWER. April 8, 1967.
