IMPORT POLICY
Criticism Of Statement (From Our Own Reporter) WELLINGTON, April 9. The Leader of the Opposition (Mr Kirk) does not agree with a statement by Mr C. F. Whitty, of the Canterbury Chamber of Commerce. that Labour’s announced policy of restoring import selection on some exempted items had aggravated the situation. Mr Kirk described Mr Whitty’s remarks as inconsistent and erroneous. “It is nonsense to complain on the one hand of the inequity of the Government’s refusal to reinstate import selection on exempt items, and then at the same time complain about Labour saying it will do just this. The facts and figures do not support Mr Whitty’s claim,” said Mr Kirk.
