UNIVERSITY VACANCIES UNIVERSITY OF CANTERBURY INDUSTRIAL ADMINISTRATION SIR JAMES FLETCHER CHAIR OR UNIVERSITY FELLOWSHIP The University has received a grant from Tasman Pulp and Paper Company, Ltd., to establish a Chair to be known as the Sir James Fletcher Chair of Industrial Administration. Suitably qualified persons are ; invited to apply for appointment to the Chair. The primary responsibility of the holder of the Sir James Fletcher Chair will be to de- ’ velop and teach a course or courses for graduate students in Industrial administration, , preferably with special reference to organisation theory and the behavioural aspects of man- , agement. It is expected that considerations of personnel management and industrial reI lations will be included in the course, which will form part of the requirements for the award of the Diploma in Business Administration. This diploma is open to selected graduates of all faculties, and other courses ' for the diploma are offered by the Departments of Accountancy, Economics Law, Mechanical Engineering and Psychology and Sociology. The holder of the Chair will also be expected to undertake research and possibly the development of case study material in industrial administration, and to participate in teaching appropriate to his qualifications and interests in any of the degree courses and extension study courses of the University. The salary will be within the range of £3600 to £4600 per annum. The commencing or subsequent salary may be increased as a result of the review which Is made at the beginning of each year. FELLOWSHIP IN INDUSTRIAL ADMINISTRATION If • permanent appointment Is not made immediately to the Sir James Fletcher Chair of Industrial Administration, the University will consider offering a Fellowship in Industrial Administration tenable for either one or two years at the discretion of the Council. The Fellow will join the academic staff of th* University of Canterbury for a short period, after which he will attend the graduate business school of a leading American university, where he would be expected to undertake a combined programme of studies and teaching duties, approved by the Council in consultation with the authorities of the American university. On completion of the Fellowship the holder will be required, if invited by the Council, to accept an appointment to the academic staff of the University of Canterbury for a period not less than the duration of the Fellowship. Any appointment will be at such status as the Council may decide, provided that the remuneration will be not less than that provided under the Fellowship. Without prejudice to the retention of the full freedom of action of the University, the Council expects that selection for the Fellowship will be such that, on its satisfactory completion, the holder will prove worthy of consideration for appointment to the Sir James Fletcher Chair of Industrial Administration. The total emolument will be within the range of £2300 to £2700 per annum. The University will also pay return fares for the appointee, and, in the case of a married Fellow, his wife, from Christchurch to the American university at which he is to hold hi* Fellowship.
