FRIENDLY BOXERS
Russians In 10-0 Win
(N.Z. Press Assn.—Copyright} SYDNEY.
Russian boxers who stopped seven of their 10 Australian opponents at the Sydney Stadium last night were only being friendly. The chief trainer, Mr Victor Ogurenkov, said his boys had been instructed these were goodwill contests. “They were told they were not to thrash their opponents, nor to knock them about," said Mr Ogurenkov, Russia’s Olympic team trainer.
It was obvious to the crowd of 3000 that the Russians were not flat out. But it was little consolation for the local fighters, whose dressing room looked like a hospital ward by the end of the night. The busiest official was Dr. Cedric Castle, who was in and out of the ring -reviving boxers one after the other.
Russia won the tournament, 10-0.
