Debutante Ball
Flowers in shades of pink and cream decorated the foyer and ballroom for the
Christchurch Girls’ High School Old Giris’ Association debutante ball in the Winter Garden last evening. Clusters of balloon* hung from the celling and the wall mirrors were draped with large filigree paper fans, backed with Iridescent pink and blue foil.
Shield* in the school colour* were in the official alcove, and a large replica of the association’* motto hung from the band rostrum Posies of mixed flowers with red taper candles in the centre decorated th* supper tables.
The debutantes, trained by Miss E. Cornyns Thomas, were presented to the president of the association (Mr* L. Cox) by the headmistress of the school (Miss P. M. Robinson). The debutantes were: Misses Marilyn Buck, Elizabeth Chambers, Dean* Crawford, Carolyn Cridge, Rosemary Deane, Lynne Ellmers, Anne Gillooly, Lesley Hawthorne,
Roberta May, Vivienne Miller, Veronica Paulsen, Linda Reid, Christine Reynish, Anne Scott, Ayleen Spooner, Helen Zimmerman.
Mr* Cox wore a slim-fitting gown of burgundy self-em-broidered twilight satin with a deep fold on either side of the skirt. The piped waistline finished with a handmade bow to add backinterest. Miss Robinson chose a gown of peacock coloured silk with slim skirt and a floating back panel.
Specially Invited guests included: Miss P. M. Robinson, Miss E. Cornyns Thomas, Miss Fern McCall, Mr and Mrs C. H. Perkins, Miss B. Waller (representing the staff), Mr and Mr* C. C. Holland (representing the board of governors), the president of the P.T.A. (Mrs J. R. Priestley) and Mr Priestley, and representatives from the following kindred associations: St. Margaret’s College (Mr and Mrs J. K. Lawrence); Rang! Ruru (Mis* D. McMillan and Miss J. Hanna); Boys’ High School (Mr and Mrs D. J. Clark).
