FORECAST TO MIDNIGHT Situation. —A slow-moving frontal zone lies over most of New Zealand and an almost stationary depression covers the eastern Tasman Sea. Forecast:

Canterbury and Kaikoura Coast.—Moderate north-easterly winds; overcast and cool with periods of rain.

Central Marlborough and the Sounds.—Fresh southerlies about western Cook Strait, elsewhere moderate variable winds; cloudy and cool with scattered light rain.

Nelson, Buller and Westland.—Moderate to fresh northeasterlies; overcast and mild with periods of rain.
