Decrease In Deaths
Deaths recorded at the Registry of Births, Deaths and Marriages in Christchurch have shown a steady decrease in March in the last three years, according to figures released by the Registry Office. In March, 1965, 222 deaths were recorded; in March, 1966, 201, and last month, 187. Deaths so far this year were 574, against 577 for the same period last year. Births recorded decreased during March. Last month there were 479 births, and in March, 1966, 524. However, total births for this year were 1463 compared with 1434 at the same stage last year. Last month 274 marriage notices were issued —the same number as in March last year. The figures for the year are 753, and last year 734. There were 48 marriages in the office last month, bringing the total for the year to 109. Last year the figures were 41 and 116 respectively.
