Barbarians XV Strong Team
The former All Black captain, W. J. Whineray, will lead a very strong Barbarians team in a match against the Cantabrians team at Lancaster Park on April 16.
Seven AU Blacks, Whineray, W. F. McCormick, B. A. Watt, M. J. Dick (Auckland), I. N. Mac Ewan (Wellington), W. J. Nathan (Auckland), J. N. Creighton and K. F. Gray (WeUington), have been chosen for the Barbarians team.
The Cantabrians’ team has not been announced yet, but it is understood that the club has been negotiating with
some Australian internationals. It is hoped that at least two of the Australian team that recently toured the British Isles will be in the side.
As well as including its experienced players, the Barbarians have chosen several promising young players. Th? giant Otago lock, G. J. Pohlen and the Marlborough No. 8, A. R. Sutherland, who was one of the best of the Junior All Black pack last season, have been placed in the pack. O. Stevens (Bay of Plenty) who played on the wing for the Junior All Blacks against the Lions is a quick young back who is being given' a chance in the first major match of the season. The team is: McCormick; Dick, D. Hill (Wellington), Stevens; T. W. Tataurangi (Auckland), Watt, A Webster (Auckland); Sutherland; N. G. Cornelius (Canterbury), Pohlen, Mac Ewan, Nathan; Gray, Creighton, Whineray.
