Favourite At Caulfield
(Special Crspdt. N.Z.P.A.) The New Zealand-bred three-year-old. Swift General, regarded as one of the best young stayers at present racing in Australia, is a hot favourite to win the twomile St Kilda Handicap, the feature race of the day at Caulfield today. Swift General, by Agricola out of Froth, one of New Zealand’s best post-war staying mares, is already being tipped as a big Melbourne Cup hope next spring. Swift General is trained in South Australia by J. B. Cummings, trainer of the last two Melbourne Cup winners, Light Fingers and Galilee. At his last start, Swift General outstayed the V.R.C. Derby and St Leger winner. Khalif, to win the Duke of Norfolk Stakes over two miles at Flemington. He is the only one of ten acceptors for today’s Handicap to have won over two miles on the flat.
