Hushaway Sold For 770 Gns

Hushaway will race in the interests of Mr P. S. Georgeson, of Dunedin, in the Great Autumn Handicap at Riccarton today. Yesterday the Wingatui jockey, B. J. Anderton, went to 770 guineas, on behalf of Mr Georgeson, to secure the Count Rendered gelding from Mr A. N. Smith, at the annual Easter sale of bloodstock in Christchurch.

Taiic and White Rajah, both offered on behalf of Mr W. H. Williamson, of Christchurch, changed hands at the sales, but Taiic will not run in the Walthatn Handicap today and White Rajah is a likely defection for the Peerswick Handicap. Taiic was bought by Mi- R. S. Shaw, of Christchurch, for 380 gns. and Mr H. Kendall, a Christchurch publican, paid 625 guineas for White Rajab. Hushaway, Taiic and White Rajah were supplimentary entries to the sale’s catalogue. Others in the same group attracted little attention. After the Canterbury Jockey Club’s meeting Hushaway which has been trained throughout his career by J. C. Tomkinson, will enter J. S. McKay’s stable, at Wingatui. White Rajah will be prepared for his future racing by C. C. McCarthy. Yesterday’s offering included brood mares, yearlings, two-year-olds and racehorses. Morelia, the winner of 10 races and a sister to Dunray and a half-sister to Solar Mist brought 1000 guineas. She had a positive test to the Riccarton Stud stallion, Mystery. She was bought by Mr A. E. Milliken, of Kaiapoi. He also went to 1100 guineas for Kalinita, which had a filly foal at foot by Ribolight and had a positive test to the same sire again, but this fell short of the reserve.

Morelia was offered by Mr J. H. Cooper, of Fairiie. Mrs E. D. Goulter, of the Sevenoaks Stud, Blenheim, paid 400 guineas for Tixall, a four-year-old maiden mare by Sabaean out of the Great Easter Handicap winner, Tess. The vendor was Mr R. G. Macdonald, of Cheviot. Two mares offered by the estate of S. J. Reid, of Outram, were bought by Canterbury owners. Mr M. B. Savill, of Amberley, who with his wife races Royal Master, paid 300 guineas for Illuminate, a Cassock mare with a filly foal

at foot by Mellay and a positive test to Afghanistan. Fair Fairy, a Sabaean mare served by My Pal and with a colt foal at foot by Afghanistan, brought 280 guineas. She was purchased by Mr A. C. Deans, of Waiau. The Wingatui trainer, A. E. Didham, paid 240 guineas for Share, a Marco Polo II mare in foal to My Pal. She was offered on behalf of Mr and Mrs R. E. Adair, of the Inglewood Stud, Kaiapoi. An attractive Eastern Nip colt, out of the Lucky Bag mare, Lucky Princess, bought 510 guineas. This youngster was knocked down to Mr M. C. Watson, of Halkett, after a brisk spate of bidding. The vendor was Mr A. E. Milliken of Kaiapoi. Mr P. J. Smith, of Riccarton, paid 200 guineas for a two-year-old gelded son of Dogger Bank and Threaten. This youngster is a halfbrother to Lightning Boy, which Mr Smith and his wife raced with success. Outride of those offered in the supplimentary catalogue there was little interest shown in the racing stock. None realised three-figures. The sale was conducted by Pyne, Gould, Guinness Ltd. in conjunction with Wright, Stephenson and Co., Ltd. Messrs D. B. Clarkson and P. J. Kelly were the joint auctioneers.
