Obituary
Mrs E. Joblin The Little River-Akaroa district lost an energetic personality recently with the death of Mrs Elspeth Georgina Joblin. She was aged 71. After marrying, Mrs Joblin moved from Christchurch, where she was born and educated, to Little River, and took a keen interest in local activities there. During the First World War she was secretary of the Little River branch of the Red Cross and was an active member of the Giris’ Friendly Society. A foundation member of the Little River Country Women's Institute, she held key positions in this organisation for many years and was honoured for her work with life membership. A widely-read person, Mrs Joblin assisted at the Little River Coronation Library. She was very interested in the local drama club of which she was producer. She supplied many properties for productions. In church affairs she played the organ and was a member of the Mothers’ Union. A correspondent for the “Akaroa Mail” and "The Press,” Mrs Joblin ensured that Banks Peninsula news was not neglected. With her husband, she was instrumental in organising in 1964 a most successful reunion of former pupils of the Little River School. A booklet on the history of the school was compiled by Mrs Joblin. Mrs Joblin is survived by her husband, who now lives in Rangiora, one daughter, and two sons.
