BATTERY LIFE
Date-Stamping Wanted Torch batteries should be date-stamped to give buyers a chance to buy batteries of the same age, says the April issue of “Consumer”, the journal of the Consumer Council. Tests in which pairs of batteries were bought in cities and in country areas showed little difference among the pairs except in Isolated cases. In these cases—all occurring in batteries bought in country districts—one battery of the pair was bad, giving, in one case 40 minutes’ life, compared with the 650 minutes given by the good battery of the pair. * The results indicated that perhaps, because of poorer stock control in some country stores, there was more likelihood of poor performance from batteries bought from these stores because of the possibility of buying one good and one stale battery.
