(N.Z. Pr«« Association) AUCKLAND. The Stewart Island yadht, Rhythm, skippered by D. McMannaway, yesterday won the sixth race of the Sanders Cup series and gained the first win for a Stewart Island entrant in the contest. The outcome of the series will depend on the final race this morning. Yesterday, the Stewart Island crew of McMannaway, N. Hamilton and F. Edwards, were challenged several times by the Auckland or Wellington yachts but were never in any real danger of losing the lead.
In the first five races of the contest the Wellington and Auckland crews had dominated the event, but the Stewart Island win has thrown the competition wide open. Wellington and Auckland both need a win to take the trophy. Result of the sixth race was:
Stewart Island 1, Auckland 2, Wellington 3, Wanganui 4, Otago 5, Manawatu «. Over-all points: Wellington 4185, Auckland 4070, Stewart Island 1038, Wanganui 1621, Otdgo 1338. Manawatu 1338.
