67 Sports Fans Seek Asylum

Sixty-seven supporters from East European countries who attended the world ice hockey championships in Vienna have asked for political asylum in Austria—and many more may decide to stay.
An official announcement: yesterday said that of the 67 who had reported to the| police and asked for asylum 56 were Czechoslovaks, nine: Hungarians, and, two Poles. Private organisations have: already reported higher figures. Thousands of East Euro-' Peans, including about 5000 n Czechoslovaks and 1000 Rus-' llgians, have been in Vienna: 1 during the last two weeks:

They are only required to i report to the police after •their visas have expired. There is speculation in ■Vienna that many of the East ) Europeans will travel to other •Western countries and seek i asylum there before their ■visas expire.
