STAKES WIN
Millie Small Millie Small recorded her third win for the season when she easily carried off the honours in the Warstep Stakes at Riccarton yesterday. The others found Millie Small’s finishing run irresistible at the end of a mile. The three-year-old My Pal filly won running away by two lengths. Mr and Mrs T. I. Smith’s filly has now earned £877 this season, her win yesterday contributing almost half that total. Millie Small showed more early speed than she had done in some of her earlier races, and she was never far from the pace. The favourite, Kalimera, was left with the pace-making under her 9-3, which did not- help her chances,y and she showed signs of strain when they reached the straight. Shoelace, which had dashed around the field to make a bid for the lead, did not last much longer than Kalimera, and Min FUcka, Millie Small and Wig were dominating the scene at the furlong. Min Flicka tried gamely under her 9-7, but she could not match Millie Small, which had 161 b less.
Wig was a creditable third, half a length from Min Flicka, and had the same margin over Lady Velvet, one of the last away. Kalimera tired to fifth, just beating Port Bank.
