AFRICAN RALLY
Tanzanian Team Leads (N.Z.P. A. -Reuter—Copyright) NAIROBI. The Tanzanian drivers, A. Shankland and C. Rothwell, seemed virtually certain to win the East African Safari rally for the second successive year when they crossed the finishing line at Nairobi yesterday. Shankland and his co-driv-er, in a Peugeot 404, led at the start of the final stage of the 3100 miles rally and maintained their advantage over the last leg. They were followed home by three Kenyan teams. Leading placings and points, subject to official confirmation, were: A. Shankland and C. Rothwell (Tanzania, Peugeot 404), 59 penalty points, 1; V. Preston and R. Gerrish (Kenya, Lotus Cortina), 69, 2; P. Hughes and R. Syder (Kenya, Ford Cortina), 84, 3; J. Singh and H. Singh (Kenya, Volvo), 94, 4.
