Release Of Game Birds
Sir, —For many years I have made friends of the pukeko, wild duck, red-billed gull, and many other birds, especially New Zealand birds. Even now the pukeko that once came up my drive to see me or feed at my bird-feeder are all getting shot. Neighbours often tell me of shooters on their property. It is very sad allowing these beautiful birds to be shot. Everyone is after them every week. Duck shooting will soon be here. At present I am nursing two injured redbilled gulls. They are improving and are now able to feed themselves. I have treated many injured birds.—Yours, etc IT’S NO GARDEN WITHOUT A BIRD. March 26, 1967.
