RAILWAY TO ZAMBIA
Control To Be Separated (N.Z.P.A.-Reuter—Copyright) LUSAKA, March 27. Zambia and Rhodesia will split their joint railway organisation into two separate systems from July 1, the Zambian Transport Minister, Mr Solomon Kalulu, announced in Lusaka. He added that the jointlyowned Rhodesia Railways would be dissolved soon afterwards. It is now controlled by a Railway Management Board composed of two senior civil servants from each side and an independent chairman. The joint railway ownership is a legacy from the days when both countries belonged to the now-defunct Rhodesian federation. A break-up was actually agreed shortly before Rhodesia seized independence in November, 1965, but proved impossible to implement because Zambia did not recognise Rhodesia’s independence and refused to meet at ministerial level.
