Students’ Work Day

More than 200 students from the University of Canterbury took part in the work day for the World University Service on Saturday, and it is hoped more than £3OO has been raised.

Students were engaged in many varieties of jobs from 8 a.m. to 1 a.m. yesterday. A spokesman for the organising committee expressed disapopintment at the small number of jobs offered for women students. “We had about 70 women students waiting on Saturday morning, and it was very hard to find jobs for them to do,” the spokesman said. “Most of the students had gardening and general household jobs to do, although there were some who were baby sitting until 1 a.m. on Sunday.”

The money raised will be forwarded to the World University Service Headquarters in Geneva, where it will be placed in the general fund for World Student Assistance.
